Varberg
The Creative Centre of the West Coast
Varberg, located on Sweden's west coast in Halland, is known for its strong ties to the sea and a diverse business community. The town has roots in the shoe industry — companies like Vagabond and Scorett originated here, and a large share of the shoes sold in Sweden are still handled by firms based in Varberg. The timber and furniture industry also plays an important role, through major players such as Derome and Södra and one of Sweden's largest ports for processed timber.
Tourism is one of the town's biggest industries, driven by its direct contact with the sea, its spa heritage, and attractive town life. The region is growing, too, as Varberg draws new residents and businesses thanks to its location within an expanding labour market.
All in all, a place where business, culture, and coastal nature go hand in hand.

Varberg Fortress was built in the late 13th century and has held major strategic importance for control of the Kattegat coast for centuries. The fortress has served as a royal castle, military stronghold, and prison. Today it houses a museum, where visitors can see the Bocksten Man — a remarkably preserved medieval bog body found near the town in 1936.
